Music Machines 09 – a huge thanks to everyone who came along

I’ve been taking a short break after the amazing Music Machines event and just wanted to thank everyone who came along to help out and check out all the great kit we had on display. Over the next few weeks i’ll be posting photo’s and video from the event plus some information on whats next for Music Machines.

I think the day was a huge success and I’ve decided that we’ll be making this an annual event. This first event was really a chance to see if we could actually put something like this together and achieve some of goals we set for the day. For me Music Machines was about:

  • bringing together NZ’s largest collection of classic music machines
  • celebrating electronic music in NZ
  • building connections between music makers in NZ

I’ve already started working on improving the event for next year and will be working with Kerry Adams from The Proof to put together a short doco on the event which we can use to approach potential sponsors. If you have any suggestions on how we could improve on the event and build for next year then please let me know by leaving a comment.

Only improvements I can think of would be the BYO cans thing you guys already thought of, and also something about the heat (airflow/aircon/bigger venue).

Would have been cool to see the Moogertronic monster in action, and also hear all those SCI synths in action at once – presentations by those guys would be supercool next year.

And would you think about opening it up to hardware rack effects too? Could maybe have loops playing through famous hardware comps and EQs and ppl could fiddle with ‘em….?

There was good effort to stop people having drinks around the synths, but some fuckwit had obviously just eaten greasy something and proceeded to put muck over many machines, including my poor mint JX-3P and PG-200, quite frustrating some people are that inconsiderate around what are obviously precious machines in many cases. Something to think about for next year….

Thanks Darin and so sorry about the grease on your synths, i’ll flick you an email through and am more than happy to pay for any cleaning if you want to.
I’ve leaned a lot from this years event and will be much more on to it with the little details for next year especially having more people in the room helping out with keeping an eye on the kit. Thanks again for letting us take a look at some of your gear.
